Week 32

Week 32

Week 32 ended up being a horrific week. Coming off the high notes from Week 31 we felt confident to try to stretch our wings a little bit. The Cancer has kept me/us held up for months not being able to be far from the house but with the new combination of medicines we felt confident to make an attempt to leave our sanctuary. Over the week we made plans to head down to Gunnison to try to get out for a while. For months we have been combating pain in the Right side of abdomen it has been strong and more intense over the past few months. Havin the girls from their recent trip back and finishing up a round of Chemotherapy we were set to head out on Saturday Morning. Early in the in morning around 2am a very aggressive strong pain ripped through my right side of abdomen by 5 am I could no longer take and proceed to go to the Emergency Room. We spent the morning till 8 am in the emergency room getting the pain under control, the option was offered to stay but we felt the pain was under control, so we left and continued to make our way to Gunnison. That day, Saturday, we spent enjoying Gunnison seeing different parts of the town and going to dinner at our favorite spot Mario’s. At dinner around 6 pm the pain started to creep back in thus we took our food to go, by 8 pm I was in severe pain again and we rushed to the Emergency Room in Gunnison by Midnight we had managed to get the pain under control and headed back to our cabin where were staying. Sunday was a bright and sunny day we spent time visiting the college an again seeing more of the town and surrounding areas, we spent time by the Taylor River, grabbed dinner and headed back to the cabin the Girls had plans to see a music show that evening. As the evening rolled around, I took the Girls to the show with plan to pick them up later. Later upon picking them up the pain had come back worse thank before and once again I spent 6 hours in the emergency room trying to get the pain under control. It was at this point it was clear that there was something wrong 3 trip to the ER in 3 days is not normal, thus I sent a note to my Oncology Team. We got up in the morning and per my teams’ instructions once we got back to Denver I went straight to the Emergency Room again (if you counting this is the 4th trip in 3 days an no I am not stubborn 😉). Once there they again managed to control my pain, we proceeded to do an MRI of the Right side of my abdomen, the findings showed severe inflammation of my Gallbladder. They immediately admitted me to the hospital. Any surgery with me now due to the Cancer is a more difficult complex surgery, it took two days to figure out if we do surgery or not, one of the lead Oncologist Surgeons came to look at my case an determined we had no choice since if we did not do this now it would just happen again. Mid-week I went under to have my Gallbladder removed. Now in the hospital I was resting pain free from the Gallbladder but significant abdominal pain from the procedure. During my stay an orthopedic doctor stopped by to look at my Foot Drop some ideas where tossed around and we will follow up on those in Week 33. After 5 days in the hospital, I was release on the 6th day and am now home working on recovery. This obviously was not what we needed but my Oncology team feels we can proceed this week with the planned infusion.
